Been transferring rear seatbelts from a donor '80 300SD to my '74 450SEL and after hours of working I had a moment of panic and now I'm worried I've been breathing and handling asbestos fibers for the last 3 hrs by moving and manipulation the insulating padding behind the seats of both cars?!?
Horsehair is what the brown/green spongy/dry mess is. It pads the seats. The rear bench seat is some type of cotton plastic material. No asbestos worries.
They call it horse hair but it's really coconut husk material. The sound damping sheet underneath is either cotton or a synthetic material. The only asbestos you would need to worry about is in the brake pads and some gaskets potentially.

Thank you for the help. It definitely was that sound dampening sheet that I worried about.
