armrests ?

All German assembled cars I have seen seem to have the centre armrest (If it was fitted - it was an optional extra on most models) fitted to the left hand seat. This continued through the whole 126 range as well.

All South African Cars (They assembled the 280 models only) had it on the right hand seat which was of course their driver's seat.

It was always used as a quick and ready guide to country of assembly during the 80's and 90's in Australia and New Zealand as many were private imports.

South African M-B's obviously had some local engineering import and also had quite different interior door linings with different arm rests - not the deep bolstered edge linings that you find on 350's and 450's.
