Question / Opinion / thoughts:

My apologies for a duplicate post/subject but I'm looking for your thoughts:

I’ve got to replace tires soon and we all know the challenge of getting appropriate 14” tires with correct speed rating 

Therefore, I am looking to upgrade to 15” Bundt style wheels because that opens up a lot of tire options, looks better and probably increases handling characteristics to some degree.

That said, would it be an injustice to my 6.9 to install these “Bundt style” wheels for approx. $780 plus the cost of new tires?  Or I have the option of buying real, 15” Bundt wheels that need to be refinished for $1000 plus the cost of tires from a local guy.

Also note that the existing 14” wheels have been chrome plated at some point and they are flaking – they look bad.

Mercedes 15" bundts (126 400 22 02) are forged and list at about $550 each.
The ones for $780 are probably aftermarket cast alloy rims, based on price alone.
Refinishing used ones will  probably cost close to the same as purchasing new OEM rims.

New OEM 15" bundts are periodically available at the classic center...when they commission another limited production run.
I purchased set of 5 from the classic center last year. I think they are out of stock at the moment.
They do seem to be currently available at this site (which also offers their own version of a 16" bundt):

About a year ago I too became a new 6.9 owner and faced exactly the same question.  After a lot of hand-wringing and reading I ended up with those $780 replicas.  No problems whatsoever thus far.  I put Pirelli P600's on them (235/65-15's).  Radius is the virtually identical to the OE tires.  Ride, handling and looks were all immeasurably improved (though in fairness, the original 14" bundts had some kind of ridiculous Michelin snow tires on them).

See the pictures below.  The top car has the new tires and wheels.  Car color is different only because of lighting and camera, it's the same vehicle, top picture captures it much better.  The bottom pic shows the tire(s) better.
