The words "vile", "garish" and "badly dated" have sprung into my mind !

Really!!?
You'll convert James, give it time :D Actually I must confess.

Somwhere in a deeply buried thread you'll find me saying something similar.  But I'm becoming more and more fascinated by AMG styling and add ons.  I thought pentas looked ugly when I first saw them.  Then I spent 6 months looking for some and I love my AMG front spoiler, though someone would have to pay me to go full side skirts and rear skirt and spoiler.

I really like that green/black accentuated w123 and I usually loathe w123's.  I love those seats and interior in the CE.  It so 70's trying to be modern.  I also used to think painted brightwork was stupidity, but the classic centre's 6.9 changed my thoughts on this. See first page of showroom gallery.  Great way to dress up damaged bumpers ;)

Des I had no idea AMG did anything to M110 engines.  If one could order an AMG tuned 6.9, were there any instances of other w116 models AMGified and tuned by the factory rather than add ons later?

I don't much like the cosmetic addons, but I would love Pentas and a front spoiler.  I would be very keen on that M110 kit though.

Would you know what the difference would be with this valve train/head to give more performance?  Taller cams, bigger valves?? I dunno, just guessing.

I have no idea.  it looks though like it includes manifolds with better flow, a new head and valves - probably bigger - and cams presumably with a different profile.  ANyway, if the good gentlemen at AMG felt it was good, I'm sure I would too.

Do you remember the red 450SEL I posted some pictures of a few months ago that had been AMG'ed?

As far as I'm aware they did performance upgrades and styling changes to all vintage Benzes from the W108/09's, W107's, W123's, W116's.

Have even seen W123 300D's with turbo upgrades done by AMG

sigh....sitting back contemplating the next purchase..!

That black 500SEC looks like the dog's cojones.

Help educate me someone ? From the AMG website that AMG69 posted, It looks like 126's have the same engine numbers as 116's i.e. M117 (I don't mean 6.9s as I know they are M100). Does this mean that they are basically the same engine and are therefore interchangeable ? I sense I'm asking a stupid question but I'm learning here !

As far as I know they only changed the block material from Iron to Aluminium and and called both motors M117.
I have heard of engine and transomission changes in total both ways.

I don't know if there was different machining of the block for ancillaries or transmission matings etc.

The heads are not interchangeable between iron and aluminium M117's.  Aluminium M117's were generally KE Jet while the iron ones were initially D-jet and later K-jet.

So its an issue of dealing with a swap between K and KE.

So could you take a 450 engine out and put a 560 engine in using same transmission etc etc etc ?
