Title: alternative to RUSTOLEUM Painters Touch Ultra Cover 2x Almond Gloss
Post by: floyd111 on 29 March 2019, 12:46 AM
That's pretty much my question. I need to find a canned version alternative, because it's impossible to ship spray cans. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I could get a can of the spray and apply to cards and mail to you for color matching of you want.
The spray cans are laquer which isnt bad, but not as durable as regular automotive paint. the cans alex posted are latex paint.

Why not get the paint mixed locally Stan?

Axalta (owners of the Standox and Spies Hecker brands) and BASF (owners of Glasurit) all have presence in Taiwan.
The last time I checked all three brands carried formulas for most DB paint codes.

Even without the paint code, any reputable paint mixing shop is likely to have an on-site spectrophotometer to match the paint off of an existing sample.

eeeeeh.. OK? Is that an option? That would be good news! This product always seemed to be something special that needed to be this-n-that. If there is a custom in the automotive sector to reproduce this stuff locally, where you live, there should be this service in Taiwan. So, I need to worry about it being oil paint, it should have a certain grain (?) like the MB Schutz, and the same color? Are there other things I should look or ask for to ensure it's the right replacement, or am I overthinking this?

Definitely overthinking, but hey, you're going for concourse right? So maybe not ;) Your call really.

I'd match the tone, and sheen and would opt for a good quality two component paint. Ideally epoxy, not acrylic. It'll hold up better. That's what I did.

That rustoleum paint is nothing special. It's not what the factory used either.

OK, so a locally made epoxy-based Schutz with about the same color and sheen. That should be doable.
It still puts a smile on my face each time I read "Concourse" It's such a laughable idea to suggest with a (cheapish) W116 280SE like this in the hands of these local mechanics and my untrained leadership.
I wouldn't even be granted a free parking spot at the Pebble Beach Shopping Mall if I tried.
Still, the idea of one day unwrapping a stock 0-mile car from 1979, and taking her for a spin, as if to open and fly a time capsule..is worth the effort thus far.

So, Stan - how did your search end? Were you able to find the stuff locally?

Don't know yet. Just heard from my man after many weeks, and he was acting as if he had not heard my paint-answers 2 months before, and was still waiting for my imports. So, all BS aside, no.. My car chassis is still minus the wheel arches. I'm pushing again.. :-\
