Adam's 6.9 restoration (part 4)

For those following my restoration we are nearing the end of workshop time. A few weeks ago the car was primed then rubbed down to smooth the primer. This week it was painted.

I saw the car today for the first time after it was painted and it looks amazing. This is even before the paint has been rubbed down with fine emery paper to remove imperfections which are inevitable in any large spray job.

In normal light the car does look black but on sunny days like today when the rays hit the angles you can definitely see copper and red colours come out. I tried to capture this in the photos.

In the next two weeks the paint will be polished to achieve mirror finish. This is a higher quality result than I anticipated. Then the restored sunroof frame will be reinstalled, doors reassembled internally, windows refitted with new rubber, etc.

After I get the car back to my place I will be reinstalling the sunroof, fitting new roofliner (home made), putting on trim, bumpers, and all the brightwork.

After that I might just crack open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the completion of this project.

Hi Adam

The car sure is coming on leaps and bounds.  That colour is really amazing, I think it will show off the bright work extremely well, what a change from the white!  Might be murder to keep clean though, but I suspect she will be living in a garage from now on.  It will be nice to see the car whole again, and then we can plan our 'London .Org' get together.  Would be great if other '.Org' members close to London could join in.  Keep on posting update pictures, and remember, you can always give me a yell if you need a hand, I'm fairly good with a bottle opener...

Regards
