well optioned car with the rear seat incline, abs and heater?  and then that interior, what was possibly a contender for a high price car, is now an abomination with 126 seats, and needing a complete interior redo!

Eina.  Makes one realise why the factory never offered creme dashes and steering wheels.

I find the seats reminiscent of the Ferrari's and Citroen CX chairs from back when. Really cool, but in a W116? A little strange, especially if you're a long-time connoisseur.
But, on a different note.. Next-in-line supercar to mention back when, was the Citroen XM/Maserati. Had such seat-styles as well. In a parallel universe, it could have been the standard for 6.9 as well. Those are sturdy leather Italian muscle car seats, not the overly comfy, wobbly German middle-aged-man-with-wide-load cushions that all the Mercs had those days.

I wish that, since they went to the trouble of reupholstering the seats, that they would have two-toned them to match the door panels.

Being a long-time connoisseur of w123s and w126s, and pretty new to the w116 (5 years), I love the late w126 seats. My eyes are trained to make me happy when I see them. But I understand how one might think they don't go with a w116 interior.

I will say this, though: the late w126 seats are the most comfortable Mercedes seats, by FAR.

Never been a fan of excess wood trim, though.

I just noticed that the trim over the bottom door sills is different colors front and rear.  Grey in front (which suits the car IMO) and tobacco in rear (which doesn't).  Given the attention to detail everywhere else I'd assume that this is deliberate but strikes my eye as odd.

The driver did not merit the same lining as the owner in the back seat. The owner must have been an old-fashioned man.
Remember, Car makers used to not even provide a roof for the driver, back in grandfather's days.

Yes, to be sure, but my aesthetics indicate that the driver got the nicer lining.  But the whole cream thing is a mystery of the ages anyway.

MMM.. better lining for the driver. A toyboy, doubling as the boss's driver?
