You guys'll get it. This is good wet sanding weather here. Park in the sun, with a hose and a lawnchair (Maybe a beer) pick a fender and meditate on EVERY SQUARE INCH  ;D  And use a lot of sandpaper...

It'll be worth it!

wahhh JOE, very impressive - lucky i saw this before i do my 116 - but i recall you wrote you didn't try to over do it or gonna be paranoid after this?? hummmm what else could be done? even mercedes benz specialists can't match this.

Hehehe.... tks Tarek but while this project came out pretty nice it was not intended to be a concours restoration so at this level I am not overly paranoid, well maybe a little but I've always been that way with my cars... never leave a car with a valet, never park too close to a large pick-up or SUV, never park under a tree (sap and bird doodoo will destroy a car's paint job), always look for an isolated parking spot at shopping malls, pay to wash the car at a car wash but wash it yourself... you get the picture.

We are doing a 71 6.3 right now that's going a couple of steps above my car, engine out, full front and rear suspension detailing, all new interior etc... turning out pretty good too.

Tks,

Joe

I just looked at the pictures again.  I think it's great that yours is a driver!  There's a lot to be said of an 100% concours restoration but how many of them get to do what they were built for?  Driving a nice car is a risk but sometimes trailering them around from show to show is a shame...

I looked at the pics of the 6.3 as well. You guys do fantastic work and it really is an inspiration to all of us!

Joes posts are the sole reason me and TJ have gone to the extent we have with his paint job. I kept looking at them and thinking "I want to do that!" Poor TJ never wanted to go this far, I hope my persistence wasn't bad advice.

jbrasile

Hehehe.... glad to be inspiring you guys!!!

I love driving these cars too much, even in crazy Sao Paulo traffic with all the motorcycle couriers driving between cars an almost taking your side mirrors with them.... do it every day and try to keep the 450 as nice as possible.

I don't have anything against doing concours restorations and find them simply fascinating, but I am not sure I could resist driving a car that's better than new for the sake of keeping it that way.... even that 200 mil 6.9 that was for sale at the Classic Center.... I'd drive it as if I had just bought it from an MB showroom in 79.

Tks again for all the kind words,

Joe

Yes, this is certainly inspirational... I don't believe it was bad advice MT, it will be worth it.

I wouldn't be too fond of a concours restoration for the same reason. I like to enjoy the cars, not leave them sitting around and towing them to the concours. 8)

Windshield and rear window replaced

Hi! At installation of glasses in addition put glue?

jbrasile

PASHKINS,

No glue, the dealership who did my windshield and rear window used non-drying black sealer on the body BUT I believe MB did not use anything at the factory when the cars were new. You should check with a local glas installer to see what they think. Next time I do it I might try to do it "dry"

Tks,

Joe

Hi Guys,

I wish we were near completion on the 6.3.... hehehe....

I am currently on Los Angeles and when I get back to Sao Paulo after the 26th  I'll take some more pictures and post them. The belly of the car was being cleaned and detailed before I left for my trip and the front and rear suspension were going through final assembly.

Tks for the interest!

Joe
