Hi all,

new to this forum.

I have just purchased a 1980 450 SEL in need of light restoration. I'm trying to locate a pair of rockers (we call the outer sills over here in the UK).

They do not seem to be available here anywhere other than direct from MB with a hefty price tag!

Are they available in the US as a pattern part and if so could someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Leigh.

I'm fairly certain they are only available from MB, although you should be able to source a pair from the "Classic Center USA".

Thank you Tim, much apprectiated.

No worries.  :)

I should add that it is likely a much more economic alternative than your local MB agent.

Hi Leigh,

I'm in the UK too and put a pair of outer sills on my SEL last year - I got them from Jacksons Mercedes in Bournmouth and from memory they were not too pricey - around £70 a side I think and fitted perfectly.

Rgds,

Jon

Hi Jon, Really? I have just been quoted £160 each side plus £22 each for the end caps!

I'd snap up a pair at that price. I imported a rocker to AUS from US at about $400 all up, less than 1/2 local dealer price.

Hi,

Yes I paid that direct from Jacksons MB - as you are aware they look after the classic parts here in the uk. It was the full outer sills for both sides, if it helps I can dig out the invoice tomorrow and pdf it to you? It was approx £140 for the pair plus about £20 delivery by courier - they come in a huge box!!

Leigh,

I paid £80.35 per side with £20 postage - all plus VAT. Total paid was £212.32 including VAT & delivery. That was from Mercedes Benz of Poole - speak to Mervyn in parts (he deals with the classic stuff) - 01202 641 855.

Sir,

Welcome to the best Mercedes forum in the world!  The major issue I have with my 78 450 SEL is also rusted out sills. do you know what is actually involved in replacing these? I am not a welder and I suspect there would be a considerable amount of  cutting and welding involved in the replacement of these parts. Keep us informed of your progress, and good luck!

Leigh,

If you send your email then I can pdf a copy of my invoice and send it over - might be able to persuade them to re-quote? Seems a rather large increase in price over a year and a half!!
