Title: 300SD Hood Springs
Post by: Nutz on 08 July 2006, 11:24 AM

Stupid question but are the diesel hood springs of the same "tension" as gas model hoods  ??? I have an aluminum hood that I'm going to put on Darth but I didn't save the springs when I disassembled my old 300SD.

I suspect that if you use the steel-hood springs, you'll have some trouble closing the aluminium-hood due to the difference in weights. You may not even be able to close the hood at all but it would probably be worth trying. Let us know how you go.

It may be nice to fin a spare 300SD bonnet and put it on a petrol powered car [say 450] and get some weight off the front end.

SHame that this model wasn't sold downunder.

I checked out my spare 300SD boot lid and a magnet stuck to it.

The boot lid is made of aluminum, but the frame isn't. I have both sitting in my garage and there is a weight difference between the two.

I may be mistaking but I've heard that the aluminum boot is only found on one year of the 300SD's  ??? My boot is off  an '80 300SD but that's not to say it hasn't been changed off sometime before I owned it.
