Yes if you're removing the HVAC it's essential to have the heater core cleaned and thoroughly checked for leaks

keep us up to date wrt progress on the speed control issue - are you planning a retrofit from another vehicle?

If you mean fitting cruise control, that is definitely on the back burner, as I prefer to get all the systems already on board fixed first.  Cruise is one of the best inventions, and I've never found a better, more intuitive system than DB's.  My 2009 C220's cruise works just like the original one fitted to W116s, with some nice refinements like the 10kph increments up and down, and the speed hold regardless of hills.  But it'll have to wait till I get the heater box flap fixed, and the self leveling, and the steering damper, and the oil leak from the cam box, and the water leak in the boot, and the tacho, and ....
