16" Centra Wheel fitment
« on: 30 October 2009, 02:36 AM »
About a week ago, I fitted the Centra rims from my W126 380SE onto my 6.9 as a trial. I think I will refit the bundts with new rubber after restoring the set though.

In any case, I would like to get a set of Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2s and bring these rims back to their original polished appearance. I think the Preceda PP2s are excellent tyres, having tried them out on my Volvo 850. Never once did the car lose traction or become unstable, even at unmentionable speeds or in the wet.

OTOH, a minimal jab of the accelerator pedal in the 6.9 will see the 225/50 R16 Kumho Ecstas lighting up on dry pavement (well, one of them anyway, as the LSD clutches appear worn). 8)

As a side note, you can see the spoiler under the front, PB. Unfortunately, the front porch of the house makes it difficult to get a front end shot at the moment. No doubt you'll see the front spoiler at some point soon. ;)

i disapprove of these wheels being on the 6.9  8)

there "modern" design clashes with the classic blue paint.

Much more at home on a crisp, white 450SEL, with black tinted windows  ;D

That's what I reckon... there's nothing at all on the car that is square or angular, so it just doesn't work.

You may be right about the 450... I think I'll try it out. There are three sets of wheels and three cars and you know how much I want bundts on the W126. ;)

I think you're thinking about Nathan's late W126 15s, I gave those back a few days ago. Now I'm back to the original three sets of wheels. ;)

Nah, they were the late W126 flat multi-spoke 15" wheels, ie bundt replacements. These are the 16" Centras that were fitted to the 380SE when I got it.

I do like those Centras, I saw some for the first time ever on a W126...just lat month. Very sexy, although i think if they were colour coordinated they would be even finer on a W116.
Well loved and cherished...

Indeed, the centre caps would be easy to paint, too. I'll probably end up doing that, I reckon.
