Title: 15 inch Bundts available from Classic Center
Post by: Harv on 27 July 2017, 08:01 PM
Expensive, but nice to see them. 15x7 opens up an entire world of new tire choices.

Yep,
they look like the real deal with the Steel inserts in the bolt holes.

Excellent,

I reckon the price is pretty reasonable for what you're getting and it really opens up a lot of possibilities for good tyres.

Still cheaper to buy these and 4 tires from a known brand than 4 xwx's for our 6.9, interesting. Only available through the Classic Center or also through the main dealers here in Europe?

yes, they are available there as well. Prepare to pay more, though. With a VDH membership you 'll still pay 590 euros inc discount and taxes. All others dealers charge 10% more.. or more.
Weird they are that much cheaper suddenly, bought from the CC USA. No takers, I guess

I fit them 5-10 years ago from the classic centre when my XWXs wore out and I couldnt get any more.  Look better in my opinion, give more tyre range (and probably better/safer tyres) too.  Before and after shots as well as a comparison against our 280e with 14 inch alloys

Cool! First time to see them so clearly compared. It's a no-brainer.

If any of you buy these 15" wheels Don't forget to send your speedometers off to be re-calibrated to account for the error.

The difference in indicated speed between a 205/70VR14 and a 205/65VR15 tyre is +0.8%, so at max speed of the 6.9 the indicated speed is less than 2km/h off. I wouldn't bother with recalibration.

Correct Peter

My Gold 6.9 has 16" AMG wheels fitted with 215/60 VR16 tyres. they are only +2.59% on the indicated speed
so again close enough for "government work".

They look really good but personally I still prefer the steel wheels with the coloured hub caps.

Alright then.  So don't.   I was just trying to help.

C'mon, don't take things so personally :)

Nobody's arguing your point was incorrect, because you're right.

However, if you consider the time off-road, time spent removing and installing the instrument cluster, shipping, cost of recalibration etc., the operation is rather pointless at 0.8% mismatch. Unless you can and are willing do the whole thing yourself, there's no value for money here.

steelies look tidy, but I don't think I would like them on a 6.9 (some early press hots had 6.9s with the steelies)

a set of 15 inch steelies with the coloured hubcaps would be cool on a 6.9 , only these hubcaps are rare and hard to find , these hubcaps are originally fitted on a W114 ambulance

JohnnyW116, these 15" hub caps were also used on all 600's after 1969, or from chassis number 001482, until production stop in 1981. In addition, the 15" steelies with hub caps were an available option for all models, sedans, coupes, SL's, etc., not just the W114/W115 ambulance.  And last, the 15" hub caps are still available new from Mercedes.  Part number
115-401-04-24.  They're pricey at 263 Euros each, or around $370 each in the U.S.

Pricey maybe but when you read how they make them perhaps not. When they re-introduced them some time ago it was explained on the classic site from what I remember.
