126 seats

My seats are sagging and finding a 116 where I live is rare and when I do the seats have the same problem, so I was thinking of putting 126 seats in but finding a 126 with manual seats is impossible in the us. I was wanting to just attach the 126 seat coushins to the 116 frame to keep the manual controls but I don't know how the seats are put together can anybody help with this?

It should be possible, to fit the 116 base to the 126 seat, as I have previously fitted a 116 seat squab to a 126 electric base and it fitted, however there are a few differences, particularly with the safety belt mounting and rail

You would have to do this on a trial and error basis though.

Do you guys drive on the same side as the USA  and what is a spuab is that like the frame

TJ 450

The squab I am referring to is the bottom part of the seat, that you actually sit on if you know what I mean.

We drive on the opposite side of the road to you.

So the squab will unbolt from the track then I would assume the back rest is the same. The front seats are the big obstical the back will just take some hammering and a saws all

That's correct. 8)

If you can find an early 116 seat or even better a 108 seat (they apparently all fit) and these earlier bases had coil springs which are much more durable than the "torsion bar" design of the later seats.

The seat needs to be removed from the car, back rest and squab separated, runners and height adjuster unbolted and then the seat squab uplostery can be removed followed by the "horsehair" pad.

You should then only have the spring base which seems to cover several modela.

Another option is to remove both seats and swap the squabs over or else use the "pool noodle repair"

Yes, W108 seat squabs do fit the W116 tracks, and the coil spring base is far more comfy than the later W116 types. I have already done this retrograde and am very pleased with the results.

early w116's indeed have the indestructible coil spring bases.

the later leaf spring bases are softer but inferior in terms of strength and longevity.

I have a coil spring base installed in my drivers seat too.

Well we recently had a thing called "cash for clunkers" where they gave $4500 for an old car trade toward a new one so finding a car made before 1980 is near impossible so I think the 126 is the only way

Interesting! I have some extra W110 chassis seat bottoms. I wonder if they are the same. I'm all for having a seat frame that lasts the life of the car, though I only weigh about 140 lbs.

Not sure if you solved your problem yet but I'd just invest the time in fixing the ones you have.  Have you tried the pool noodle trick?  I have some really nice tan velour seats out of a 79 280SE Euro I picked up in Texas (Squiggle Dog's seen the pics).  Front and rear.  Both in outstanding shape.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them yet - might use them in my 79 300SD, taking the covers off the ones there although the ones there are in pretty good shape.
