1166900230 COVERING SPARE WHEEL

This is the panel in trunk that covers the spare tire.

One car has a hinge on it (172) and the other (1952) doesnt.  What's weird is that 1952 looks like there are broken off screws in the trunk floor where the hinge would be.

The hinge-less one is stamped with the part number, the hinged isnt.

The one with hinges is in worse condition than the one without.  They are riveted on, guess I will switch them over. It also has a worn out elastic riveted on the rear part, dont quite know what that is for either.

It seemed to me that the hinge does make it easier to open and get in there, otherwise the panel flops about a bit.

Early cars have metal hinges screwed into the floor. Late cars have plastic hinges which clip into the floor. It seems like the panels always warp. I am considering some day having one made out of aluminum and then powder coated black.

Brilliant idea! Though they don't seem to warp if the trunk stays moisture-free. Most leak or have in the past.
