Here's a complete car for sale with them: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160576568375

That one looks to have been put to the test already...  There is visible damage to the front bumper in that picture and the angle of the bar seems to indicate it is quite bent.

Looks to me like these overriders will simply channel the collision higher up into the grille. Sorry, but they just look ugly to me; why should I add to the existing ugliness of my bumpers?

They don't look ugly to us.

You shouldn't.  You should, upon ever sighting some of these in the wild, put them in the mail to me immediately, as there will be money coming to you in return. :)  Not only will you make money by improving the "beauty" of the car you remove them from, but you'll make money from me, too.  What a deal!!

I like the front one (and I like the shark comment, lol). The back ones leave something to be desired.

For some reason whenever I see these bumpers, esp these big ones, they remind me of a bulldog.

Either the beer or imagination has gotten the best of me.

I can't say I'd put one on my car but I certainly respect the person that will!  And, I know it's not the same thing but there are still generic fit badge bars available at Classic Car Parts UK.

I can't begin to guess how rare the originals might be since badges were more a European thing than American and these bumpers are certainly uniquely American...

Casey

I guess this would be what the badge bar's intended use is:

A 450SEL in my local Craigslist just appeared with the elusive grille guard option! Someone buy the car and sell me the bumpers! I actually think these parts would fit on my 6.9 bumpers. One of these days a set shall be mine! https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/d/1975-mercedes-benz-450-sel/6592588323.html

I'm with Squiggle on this one. Yes, they are insanely bad on a W115, but on a W116.. well.. they are impressive in a Teutonic way, and they might actually protect your bumpers a bit as well.

I have seen a lot of such protectors for sale over they years, many of them, if not all of them, designed for USA- bumpers. Never bought them, because of the united fashionistas here. Hard to tell how big they were. Never saw anything else but MB-numbered protectors. If these are aftermarket, good luck finding out who built them, and where to get another pair.

Sorry to be controversial but nothing about the bars/bumpers/protectors flows in any way with the shape of the car. It's like they let a 4 year old kid design the extras.
