Have used 6.9 parts gone just completely insane?  Ugly, used struts for $1100+ ??  $1000 for valve covers?  What's going on out there?

There is hardly any part I would buy on fleacebay these days. The greed is strong and will errode the value of our cars.

Not just 6.9.  Right now I see a listing for 1 (new) check strap on ebay at almost $400 :o

....and then consider the exhorbitant freight costs for those of us who reside across the oceans ! :'(   And then there is the $ conversion. >:(
I paid $40 for a grommet the other day!!

You guys are coppin' it sweet!......but more to the point, the parts a getting harder to find.

No doubt the freight companies are raking it in for sure.  Shipping to Canada from the US bites hard plus our friends to the south have a variety of US based vendors that outnumber us by a huge margin.

Ground shipping rates within the US is a game changer for them whereas up here in Canada we have the 2nd largest country in the world by landmass but less people than the state of California.   Let that sink in 8)

That much for a set of valve covers?! Dang. Makes me wonder what I could get for my NIB 6.9 engine heads...

I looked up that guy that sells on ebay.de puts everything on a box with his logo, and ask 4-6x what anything is worth.

Apparently they have a high end MB restoration shop.  Id hate to see what he charges there.

I think this is the outfit you mean:"baz_dreamcars", here is one of many outrageous listings:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/284514620593?hash=item423e6494b1:g:u90AAOSwd8FhglSy&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoFBneCwEgx8RoAa%2FU1YNqOwAXts1VYAxDBg5k8R%2BTjVgBJOoGaNDLTLkp%2FrCpQQb4MqJtWODyz0TedteFfeYAnCNtmIs1FsoFGp6ZUohNs%2BuyXJ0vCBu%2FLgH70oqgw6y5akcgvvEl7UMPo%2BzgCrTXxFz%2BN%2Bok7XURYHXMtkeAf64qGH6qx6y%2FX481bas0BdBINnLfrFIg4QDgBOHq4asVs0%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4bZ8cLUYQ

They along with these well known ripp off artists "Alt Stern" or whatever they have rebranded themselves to.  I think they have gone through many handles on ebay.de when they get called out.  They seem to be based in Julich, Germany. I have found different handles, I am pretty sure it is the same seller, the infamous "Alt Stern":

curtain-vorhang
miwg-126-140-116

Maybe more, who knows.  Just look for crazy prices out of Julich, Germany, it will be these shysters.

right, here right from my "blocked ebay buyers list":
curtain-vorhang,
dz-original-mb-ersatzteile-oldtimer-cars,
miwg-126-140-116

Alstern and Altestern were his former ebay names that do not seem to exist anymore.

In case you know other ebay names of him please let me know so I can update my list of blocked buyers.
I have quite negative memories with him as a buyer, so I am keed to have my list of blocked buyers up to date.

Thomas

The curtain business of the frenchies seems to feed the entire bunch, no wonder when looking at the prices. Despite of my mixed experience back then, check my curtain post, I seem to have been much better off than buyers are today pricewise.
Astonishingly (or less astonishingly) they managed to gather a good deal of positive feedback under their new seller names within short. All feedback in a similar broken german:-)
Unfortunately it raises prejudices towards nationalities.

However, though it undermines the business with parts that help to keep our cars on the road, at the end of the day it is capitalism and it is up to everybody to decide whether he closes one of these foul deals or not.

20 years ago ebay was great. Nearly all items sold were auctions and I and others would wait until last 2 minutes to bid. Prices were good. Then eventually everyone figured out what was rare and what wasnt. Then ppl got greedy. Plus ebay fees kept going up to now they take @15% off the top now and paypal will seize your assests if they dont like what you post on social media.

I swear that some people are laundering money thru ebay with near worthless items "selling" for hundreds if not thousands.
