High oil pressure/gauge issues - 280SE

On the 280SE I revived after 10 years of sitting, the oil pressure gauge sits at 0 with the engine off, then climbs to the top of the scale as soon as the engine starts and stays there.  I just changed the engine oil, but the gauge does the same thing.

With electric instruments, I tend to be as suspicious of the sender and the gauge as I am of the problem the gauge is supposed to indicate, so I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this issue.  I don't even know if the gauge is electric.

This is normal behaviour.  The gauge should peg at max during warm up, then with fully hot engine at idle (foot off accelerator) the reading should drop, but again peg at max when you apply throttle.

It's not electric.  It connects directly to the engine oil gallery by a tube to a fitting at the top rear of the block (on V8).
