Quote from: nathan on 06 June 2023, 10:12 AMwell spotted Neil, ha ha. I picked that one up and was like WTF! I have about 4 clusters from 6.9s. im not sure what happened with this one so I just cut the pic where I had narrated it was missing out of my video!

I ordered a 450sel cable, only 60USD from the classic centre as at today (discounted more if you spend a lot of money with them).  I will update and confirm Bills previous findings it fits.

I cant recall if I mentioned Neil, I was in Calgary over New Years as we went to Banff.  How you keep a 116 alive there I have no idea.  The roads were terrifying and covered in sludge!

I found that really interesting... Wondering if it is a really early model or something that didn't have the light? Or maybe someone just replaced the bottom indicator portion from a 'regular' one? I saw another model some time ago with that same phenomenon.

Oh man! That is great to hear you were able to visit. While my father drove his 450 (non 6.9) all winter, RWD V8 isn't great in this climate. And the "sludge", is one of the worst parts of the winter here. You can't keep a car clean for more than a few days. The 116 is only for summer/fair weather use.

I just rebuilt mine as well as spare core that was laying around.  The shop confirmed what you guys said, with one caveat:  now there IS some specific part that's NLA from Bosch.  It might have been the solenoid itself, or maybe the end of the solenoid where the connection screws are.  Can't recall.  Anyway, they had one on stock so one starter got rebuilt to as-new condition.  They had use some Chinese substitute part with different screw placement, possibly harder to connect.

Any car electrical shop worth its salt should be able to fix them up.  There is no magical dust involved.

Good find!

What are the components you know of that are wired always on? I disconnect my battery between drives because it will usually run down over a period of weeks to months. I've always just assumed it's the clock since I can hear it ticking away from outside the car (when the garage is otherwise silent), but must admit I don't know what other components are able to draw when the ignition's off.

Not sure really how to assist as I am not sure if the tests with the ACC will work here.  But on the ACC system if you unplug for example one of the sensors like the ambient sensor at the firewall, then the resistance goes open, and then you should get full hot.  Another failure spot is the "sniffer tube" which runs to the in car sensor.  On many older cars this tube is rotten away, thus causing lazy and imprecise temp adjustements.  These are as I said easy checks on the old ACC system and not sure if this will help you with this newer iteration.

I guess my only other troubleshooting steps would be to check the wiring job behind the glovebox where the amplifier used to be and ensure there are no shorts. Other than that, you may have a detective unit. Who made your unit?

I see people has been reading this thread, but no one has responded, so I'll give the conclusion of the story in case anyone else encounters this problem.

After removing the ignition switch and testing it, I found the switch was okay, but the current draw was still there with the switch removed.  That meant I needed find another component that is connected directly to battery voltage and to the run circuit.  There aren't many components in this car that are wired that way, and I discovered that whatever was causing the problem was drawing current through fuse 4.

To make a long story short, it turns out to be the hazard switch.  The wiring diagram shows that it is connected to the battery bus and the start-run bus. So a short in the switch was causing current from the battery to feed back into the run circuit even with the key turned off and removed.

An easy enough fix to remove the switch; it has never worked since I've had the car.  But I probably need to find another switch.

Nice car, but LOTS of small issues. I wonder if previous buyer got it home and the sheer number of items needing attention got to him.

I also wonder if he paid the Dean Lumbaugh name premium and wont get that back. Dean spent 5 or 6 years building this I wonder if he just got tired of trying to finish the car and just finally gave up. Not his finest work. Prior to listing on BAT, Dean said the car would be the finest 6.9 to hit BAT.

I predict the car sells for less than he paid . It would take another 10k to address everything.
Wow. Interesting.  Pretty far from finest car to hit BAT.  To be sure, bumpers are ridiculous.  Wood isn't good either and there's that weird and inexplicable color upholstery.  Then nonworking locks, sunroof and busted radio.  Oh yeah, lousy pad under hood, tired carpet and sloppy trunk.  Are you seeing more?  Cheers,

Would love to hear more so I can go check my car to see what needs some work LOL :)

Thanks for sharing the links all! The Silver 6.9 with the Recaros is a pretty nice basis for a project. I love those seats!
