Test Drive / Re: My 6.9's

Finally wrapping up the huge exercise of restoring the bottom of the car. Hours of scrubbing the black tar based undercoating off, then paint where needed and topped with fresh schutz. It took a few days to figure out where all the fresh replated hydro/brake/fuels lines went. Need to fine a couple of 10mm original hose clamps.

I need to next attend to my sl500 as it needs new RST hydraulic cylinders. Need to get done for summer driving.

Yup the pics are not great.  Looks like there might be rust in the usual rocker panel spots.  If the car spent much time here in rainy Vancouver then it's pretty much a given it will be rusty.  We do not get much road salt but the near constant rain from Oct to May really messes up the undercarriage.

Do it, we're all cheering you on haha

I do concur that it looks to be MBTex but then again some angles of it look like leather, either way looks clean and in good condition (minus the usual rear seat pads)

Pull door handle and at same time flip catch open with finger or end of screwdriver.

Failing that at least the door is open and you can remove door card and get inside to linkages or worst case remive latch assy.

HI,
Thanks for your help.
In this case the door is open, but the mechanism is closed so it will not shut. I need to open the lock to close it, the opposite of what would be normal! Cheers

Indeed I've only ever seen 108/9 with this type of colour combo.  But then again on the 108/9 the dark green is usually pared with that great Cognac leather which I'm not sure this is.  Looks more like MB Tex to me in the pics

Quote from: Frankthemoneyman on 18 March 2023, 11:11 PMUpdate - The cast iron 450 finally came apart and I figured out what caused the locked up engine.
I took the heads off and no apparent damage and it was still locked up.
Took the oil pan and timing cover / chain off.
Found a bent rod on number 4, it appears to have hydro locked.
Had to loosen the main caps to get it to turn and the crank.

That happened to me once....   ::)
