Mechanicals / Re: Unknown valve, presumably ...

Whilst we are here,
does anyone have a vacuum diagram for the engine of a m110.985 (kjet)?
Specifically, where/ what does the blue-purple line do or go to? (Mine terminates after a check valve near the battery)

Quote from: daantjie on Yesterday at 12:43 PMYes it's a vacuum switching valve for EGR.  Usually I've seen VDO brand ones, I'm pretty sure they are NLA (no longer available) now anyway.
If you have no smog testing bullshit where you live, then just rip out all of this garbage and plug all the vacuum lines and orifices.  Then reset mixture and idling and you're laughing.

Cheers, I'll just plug the vac lines with some hot glue and leave the thermovalve in place with nothing connected to it.

I did observe that I can purchase EGR blanking plates, I may consider doing that later down the line to free up room.

Quote from: ramiro on Yesterday at 11:41 AMIf you have egr , and the valve is for that the egr will stay closed , the EGR valve only opens when there is vacum to it.
I am not sure on the AU variant , do you also have a fuel canister so the fuel tank vent goes into the engine , the valve also could be for that.
If it's egr one line from the valve should go to the EGR valve.

Yeah easy, so I should be good just to leave it in place for the moment- till I purchase a blanking plate.

Quote from: Neil4speed on 07 October 2024, 01:30 PMSorry.. off topic question... How do you take the numbers from the part guide you provided and get the part number?

After the pictures, there are pages that list all of the part numbers to the corresponding callout number, and in numerical order. Bear in mind that what I used was an actual dealership parts book, not the picture parts book that comes in the owners manual packet.  ...those don't show part numbers, just pictures more for reference.

Before EPC, books and micro fiche were the only way to catalog and look up part numbers.  I essentially looked up the part number the old fashioned way.

Niel, here's another good source for repairs which I stumbled on with my headlamp problem; Michael Medill, "Michael the Mercedes Guy" does Utube DIY videos. Was also able to answer my question.

Quote from: ramiro on Yesterday at 05:49 AMHello,
If you have an EGR system then it could be the switch that turns on the EGR valve when a certain temperature is reached , you could just leave the switch alone an drive without the egr system.

Ramiro

Hi Ramiro,
thanks for the insight, if the valve is not connected, will the system default to being closed? Or open?
Can I simply leave the thermovalve in place and block off the ends of the vac lines?
