No longer required or supplied after Jan 1st 2010.

Vehicle registrations in no other way affected.

Why ?

Cost cutting, it will save the WA government 2 million dollars over the next 4 years - Expensive bloody stickers...

That will be the time for me to buy a new windscreen and keep it without crappy stickers on it ;)

Excellent, cleaner looking windscreens.

How does the average person know that a car is registered, though? Presumably, you would have to contact the authorities, which may be a slight inconvenience.

Simple, if you fail to pay the registration due when asked, you get a demand to hand the plates back in or pay a $100 fine, ignoring this results in it being lodged with the fines enforcement registry, ignoring their 1st and second warning results in a drivers license suspension till all money is paid for the fine.

The stickers were only really of any use to police 15 - 20 years ago when vehicle registration numbers were printed on them, now they are useless and registration checks always need to be verified on the tardis computer system anyway. With the introduction of this computer system, visually inspecting the stickers is no longer necessary - it only takes less than a second to get a result back from the server. Prior to the in car computer systems, radio verification took up to 6 minutes. Technology makes change.

Driving around hunting for losers driving in unregistered vehicles or under license suspension (if the car is registered in their own name) is like shooting fish in a barrel.

That's all as expected, but I mean if you are looking at a car as a member of the general public, you wouldn't know if it was registered or not. You would have to check with the police or the registration reciept to find out.

Having said that though, it probably doesn't even matter. If you were purchasing a car, you would look at the papers anyway. 8)

I'd say I've well and truly learn't from my mistakes. ;)

It shouldn't have happened, but at least I got a solid 380SE out of it, even if the engine and trans were rooted. 8)

BTW, the SEC now has one Bundt installed. I would have to say that I much prefer Bundts on the 126.

It was with some unease I saw the item on ditching the stickers.

Given my experience on Anzac Day the Police can't get it right even with a sticker so got help us if we have to trust the Police Computer alone.

True, i forgot about that.

I guess like in America, we will need to now hand over our licence and "registration" papers when pulled over. That is fail safe at least and is sure to stop any arguments - especially if its stapled with the paid receipt.

I have always resisted keeping the Rego Papers and receipt in the car in case the car was ever stolen but I will be changing my opinion.

Interestingly the receipt for her and my Firearms Licence only arrived in the mail today (after a ring from my wife to the Arms Office). It was paid over the internet on 18 March and the licence states it is not legal unless accompanied by a receipt.
