According to this, bosch has stopped manufacturing the airflow sensor potentiometer as of 2007!

so i suggest you prioritise this part asap.

bosch sold it as an individual part but MB do not.

What I have learned from this experience, is that we should never complain about K-jet w116's / pre-update k-jet w126's. As  they are effectively indestructible fuel injection systems.

EVERYTHING KE-jet will eventually fail with costly components required that may or may not even still be available. Eventually second hand parts will be used which will be just as crap as the ones removed. Only hard core enthusiasts will convert their cars to modern engine management systems - the rest of the cars will end up crushed. The same fate awaits all alloy block v8's that haven't had an impeccable service history.

MB respect, minus 10%

Well, I found a generic version of the potentiometer listed on ebay. I have decided to purchase this, along with the rest of the air hoses required, to get the engine running as well as possible. Apparently, this potentiometer is used on most, if not all, KE Jet engines.

Yes, good old K Jet really is a pleasure to work on in comparison. It makes me appreciate 116s even more.

Thank god for the chinese - they can replicate anything  8)

That skill certainly comes in handy some times.

MT applied some conductive grease to the contacts of the potentiometer. We test drove the car and the coasting surge had disappeared, however, came back in a very mild manner on my drive back home.

All in all a good achievement, however I will be purchasing the reproduction part obviously. The next parts order will be at the end of the week. 8)

PS; Yes, I know. No photos or even YouTube videos... I'll get that organised at a later date.

the test drive in total was about 50 km completely trouble free - I think you can now safely assume the potentiometer is absolutely without any doubt the cause of the issue.  8)

when you arrived initially the idle sounded like you were stabbing the throttle pedal twice per second.

A new thermostat was installed, oil and filter changed (Mobil 1 5w-50) and a thorough inspection was completed.

Then I went out for a 130km drive, up to speeds of 110km/h (3500rpm), and it went very well.

This is the car idling after the drive;

you still need to change the potentiometer  8)

I bought the pot on Friday, so it might take a little while to get here.
