( W114 ) exhaust fell off, oil pressure gauge fluctuating .....

Was rather tired on a long trip home last night when the engine ( 300d ) started making weird noises.

Was trying to make it to the next gas station when a car drove by me and put on it's hazard lights.

Took a quip nap and tried to get to the next tank station again, more hazard lights, quick stop, the exhaust had broken in two, sigh of relief and 20 minutes later I had the two back mufflers and pipes in the back of the ambulance.

100 km to go, but limped in, due to the oil pressure gauge acting rather strangely.

... coincidence ?

I would say coincidence, but how was the gauge fluctuating, as in how much?

Normally it stays on "3" while driving, was falling, engine revving brought it up again, but with delay.

Just checked, oil level non existent, was half full 700 km ago, will fill up oil as first troubleshooting action.

Think the car needs a rest, has done too many kilometers the last six weeks, needs some rehab ( drinking too much ) and a beauty treatment.

Me as well.

That would do it, but it could have been catastrophic too. Hopefully the engine hasn't been damaged too much by it.

Must have put about three and a half liters of oil in the thing, pressure up, starting fine, where did all the oil go ? Exhaust burns clean, no visible leakage. Think it must have something to do with running it without the mufflers attached, no back pressure or something.

Good news is, it went into the garage and the W116 came out.
