The Mercury Cyclone: An American Falcon GT

I thought this forum might appreciate the attached photo gallery and article about the original 1960s Mercury Cyclones.

As I was looking it over I realized that in some color/option combination the Cyclone definitely resembles an Aussie Ford Falcon - one of my favorite cars in the world.

I definately see elements of the XA GT Falcon.

But the one element that is not present in the Falcon is that 428 cobra Jet!  The 351s are nice, but a bit short on torque ;)

Ah, but the 428 WAS present in one Falcon GT and this was no backyard job. It was a genuine GT shipped to the US by the then manager of Ford Australia, Bill Bourke. The Ford boys at Dearborn shoehorned the 428 in and shipped it back. It became Bourke's private road car....the only one in the world.
