Selling the 6.9 helped finance this....(Landrover Discovery Series 3)

Well, thanks to the 6.9 sale price we could afford a new "family truckster" as Chevy Chase would say. No, I'm sorry we couldnt stretch to a new Merc 4WD  - ML320 CDI  :'( ...just too pricey for me....but settled for a low kay's (19,000km's) 2006 Series 3 "Disco" TDV6 with the lot. Almost as much torque as a 6.9 (510nm) and around 168kw (with a DP PowerChip fitted). Should make short work of the two horse float etc (yikes she weighs in at 2650kg's).  And, yes, we are planning a major off road (Adelaide to Ayres Rock) holiday next year with my Adelaide and Melbourne based siblings and families.  (This will be my distraction from missing the M100 rally  :-\ )

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm

To quote the famous American comic Lewis Black...

"I shoved a SPOON up my ass... because if I'm going to hurt THAT much, I'm going to know there is a good reason."

(decides to put aside the concept of 6.9 money being spent on... that... long enough to try to drink himself to death before his head explodes).

No, seriously though... nice (erk) SUV.

Yep, C Class is worse, we got quoted mid next year if the olds ordered a sunroof to go with their car. What they get next week is a car with no sunroof and the std 16 inch wheels.

In a nutshell Des - Yes.

There seems to be a history of trading a car in Sep/Oct (I hate to keep it once it's not mine) and picking up the New one in Jan/Feb that spans several generations of the last new cars in our family.

To do it that quick they usually have standing orders which they replace with a customers order - this is probably why the C is taking so long as it is too popular and there are no standing ortders to replace.

We also want a 2008 ADR Compliance Plate on the car.

Very popular models like SL's when they are new can take 1 to 2 years.

You learn to be patient and think ahead.

Des

Is most of that time in shipping? they come over by boat?

Yes well you must have patience, I would find that very hard, shelling out for a new car, then have to wait for it.

My ML500 was ordered in September 2006, manufactured in November 2006 and arrived at Diesel motors late January 2007, prepared and picked up about 5 days later.

The order has to be in about 6 weeks before manufacture, shipping takes about 6 weeks plus whatever time to clear customs in Australia.

You sign a contract and give them a $5,000 deposit but you don't pay for the car until you pick it up.

The only worry is if they put the price up before delivery - then the contract would be re-negotiated - but that has never happened to me so far.

Thanks for the info Bill, I have to say again it must be a long hard wait,
you know, like a little kid waiting for Christmas day to come around.

I've heard that people can go to the factory and pickup their car directly, that would be a nice touch.

Truth be told, I am also waiting for a new Mercedes Benz to arrive as well

one of these

Last time I saw this (apart from in the museum) was in a Mercedes dealer in Munich. This had to be re-made from scratch as the original was long gone. The rear windscreen apparently was one of the most difficult parts as it has a very unique shape to allow the race cars on the back to fit on the deck. It has a sticker on the side saying what maximum speed it was allowed to be driven at - 105 MPH.
