I second the question... What on Earth is that?

someone stole the 2 and replaced it with a 5, the spacing irregularity makes such an issue likely

its sad how modern Benz badges are now "chrome" plastic with double sided tape on the underside, seems awfully povo.

I like it,
It should have been done from the factory

As I understand it, the 600 owners were part of the reason why MB went with the 450SEL 6.9 instead of the 690SEL. Same deal with the 300SEL 6.3. Didn't want the big-bucks contingent all p-o'd about being "one upped" by a "lesser" car.

I've always kinda like the "exclusiveness" that comes with a "tweaked" model. There are lots of those in the MB collection: 300SEL 6.3, 450SEL 6.9, 260E 3.2 (I think this is right - it was a small chassis car that came originally I think as the 190E here in the states - which was a 4-banger, then as a 2.6l six, and then as a 3.2l variant).

As for the stick-on numbers - I'm not positive that they're plastic, but I know I prefer the stickon stuff to all the holes drilled in the body. Nothing good can come from holes in the sheet metal. I've got an aluminum trunk lid for my 6.9 to be used when I repaint (the original has rust under the back edge), but it's from a 300SD, so the holes don't match for the emblems. I'll have the holes filled by a welder, but I'm thinking seriously about removing the pins from the emblems and re-applying them with tape.  Optionally, I may go with the factory-spec option on my car which is 260/261 - designation delete on trunk lid. According to the data plate, the car was delivered sans-emblems, but it's got them now, so I guess someone had them installed at a later time.

dont quite understand the s580 badge?!
dad got a new GL500. in the US, they call it a GL550 which i thought was the US being a bunch of tools...however, i didnt realise the engine actually is a 5.4 something litre engine so it really is a 550!
dad ended up changing the middle letter so it was a 550 - i told him he's an idiot!

I saw that badge in the back of the GL, Nathan. I didn't ask why it was there, but I had a pretty good idea why. :)
Hopefully your Dad wasn't perusing the forum to see your post! :o ;)

The current W204 c-class model line-up includes a 6-cylinder model sold as the C280 in every part of the world.... except the U.S. where it is badged C300, apparently to have more credibility...

That's questionably gimmicky marketing. I'm surprised at this revelation and I think that's pushing the boundaries a little far. 8)

Then again, that's the way of the World these days, so as to be expected.
