Rusty Relics ... picture thread

First off I'll say that this is not an original idea of mine.

One of the most popular threads on the mazda forum is just pictures of wrecked, abandoned, smashed, or parts cars.  Originally it was just the rotarys, now encompasses all lost mazdas: http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?t=72997

Since most of us have camera phones and digital cameras and are usually out looking for MB parts, I thought I'd start a similar thread.  Pls add as you see them thanks.  Think of it as one last tip of the hat to these classic cars before they go to the crushers.

Those 126s are at a BUY ME NOW moment.

A very nice but 10-problem Black on Black 560SEL sits at a bodyshop down the road - I could buy it for $500 today.

Ten problems is a lot, even with a good body and above average interior.  Sunroofs are terrible and unfixable, windows don't work and the engines are hard to work on due to space.  A lot of them have tint on the windows and that is almost impossible to remove.  And rust rust RUST.  Why did Mercedes have such terrible metal until 1991?  Did they recycle this metal or something?  Up here a 116 or 126 or 107 is an alka-seltzer tablet with wheels - you can HEAR them rust.

Some found today in Melbourne's seedy western suburbs (don't worry, I can say that because I live here...):

Ouch, poor bugger.
I hate seeing bumpers bent. Or w116's in general.

13B I keep forgetting to post pics.  I still have to take a couple of shots of the two relics in my backyard which I've only shown tentative previews of before.  And why haven't we asked about the 230sl before ???  What happened to it ??? Fell off a boat?

Anyway, one I found on the web the other day with this thread in mind.
Don't know whether it's a resto or wreck but it doesn't look good in that state.

And this one was squashed for a movie, not sure which one.

give this a cut and polish and I'm sure it would look as good as new.

Advertised as "good for it's age" I bet :D

I can understand how MB sedans fall into disrepair - they start out as expensive new cars, thenafter 20 years they are just old worn out sedans, then if they are lucky another 10 years down the line they may become sought after again.  But that 300SL?  Those have always been valuable and desirable.

I wonder what colour that one was originally, it's hard to tell what with all the tackle boxes, dead animals, spare parts etc. At least the kind soul has placed a blanket over the roof to stop scratches. ;D
