I was thinking silver/blue with cream interior, they're everywhere  :D  But gee that one looks tired

But look at this one.  I think I found the ultimate end of a w116.  So sad.

Oscar, you know what the next whatever v's whatever is going to be....grey blue (906) v's silver green (861) v's thistle green (881).

Referring to the pic....I hate to say it, but amazing how resilient the boot star is, and yet any 8 yr old punk with an attitude can prize it off with a screwdriver...

No worse than this one....damn shame!

That car was dispayed at Techno Classica this year. It was pulled out of a bog.

The Wasser Pagode? I'd love to find out more about it, why it sat at the bottom of the Neckar river for so long etc etc.

I read the story but can't remember the details now. I am going to Veterama in a few weeks and if it is there, I will take note of the details.

Yes please, as morbid as it sounds, this kind of intrigue fascinates me  ;D

...remember, lots of these cars went to RICH people... not just well off, RICH.

Lots of wealthy people don't bother with comprehensive insurance, as they know the house usually wins, and with a large asset base many wealthy people simply roll the dice - knowing that over a generation or two they'll profit as the risk is spread pretty widely due to multiple houses, businesses, farms etc etc.

Something as cheap as a car would definetly not be insured by a wealthy owner, and a gentleman of my acquaintance doesn't even bother with liability, as the state lets you post a bond as proof of financial surety....  Must be nice.

The car was ruined - and restoration projects just aren't Bill Gates' style.  And some wealthy people simply will not accept anything as important as a car, boat or plane after a major repair.  I know this - if I had significant money and knew what I do about cars, I'd certainly trade instantly any vehicle that required opening the engine or trans...  reliability can be compromised.  Bill Gates rarely gets stranded.

Plus, he was probably pretty disgusted...  with his WIFE     ;D :o ;D

Apparently, he has decided that Hondas are more appropriate for her:

If anyone wants a wagon that would be an awfully great parts car - the interiors are impossible to find and good shells are everywhere.
