I think this will need quite some intrepid restorer - perhaps the WA bunch are the right calibre?  ;D

40,000 - 60,000 pounds stirling for that piece of crap ?  ::)

those cars give me nightmares, you need to be seriously cashed up to even contemplate restoring one - i wouldn't even take it for free, because i know it would result in me selling my house to restore it...

No thank you sir, i don't want one, i never want one.  8)

another sad 280s

would be worth selling a house to have onbe of these. could put that factory reconditioned 6.9 into it.

nathan

tis a laundalette though! however, crap interior, crap exterior and who knows mechanical shape makes for a kinder surprise bill! still, its a laundalette (sell your house PB)!

I'm sure it will sell - there are some well heeled enthusiasts around, and if you really want a laundalet, well, there aren't a lot of alternatives for sale.

Restoration cost will be huge.  I know that people talk about US$100 000 to restore a 'normal' SWB 4-door 600.

Being a Landaulet, I'm sure it will see a top quality restoration after it has been sold. What a special vehicle they are.

I would be very concerned as to how it ended up in that condition, though. I suspect the cost of restoration to be phenomenal.

i didn't realise it was a laundalet, i guess it does make the asking price reasonable considering how absolutely rare those vehicles are. Its a wonder how it fell into such a state of disrepair.

some bored millionair will buy it and give it a factory restoration, I hope.

P.s. still wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

Burty

Please excuse my ignorange (only a "Newbie") but what is the deal with it being a "Laundalet" ??

A car like this would have to have some history??

As Jeremy Clarkson says have one of these and you can say you drive a "Dictators Car" !!!!

TJ 450

Even the "regular" Pullman was produced in small numbers. So yes, being a Landaulet, of which there were only a few, it will have an impressive history behind it.

There were about 2200 W100 cars of all types produced.  The varieties included :

SWB 4-door
SWB 4-door with central divider
LWB 4-door with divider
LWB 6-door without divider
LWB Laundalet.

There were a couple of one-offs such as a factory built car with raised roof, and the 'popemobile', but apart from that, Laundalets were the rarest with just 59 produced between the late 60's and early 80's.  They are the most exclusive MB's ever produced, and were spectacularly expensive when new, and generally purchased only by heads-of-state for use in state occasions.  The mere fact that this car is available for sale to the public makes this a noteworthy event.

It's good to see that they're not directly trying to pull the wool over people's eyes, so to speak. For someone with a LOT of extra cash, it would be an ideal project.

the article I linked just above has been updated - the Laundalet sold for $440 000.00.  Someone has deep pockets.
