I would really like to get a late model W124 E500, or W124 E320 Cabriolet, or a W26 560SEC. Or all three!
"You've bought another bloody car?!? We should have you committed!" he shrieked, storming out of the room

I'm going for a either a second hand Jaguar XJR 4.0 supercharged - in black!!  OR a E55 AMG (not the current shape 350KW jobby but the previous shape with 260KW).
sigh....sitting back contemplating the next purchase..!

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an early W140 600SEL, I'm also after a finny 300 sedan, preferably a lang, and I lust after a '51-'53 Hudson Hornet, preferably the Twin-H version.  OK there I said it, my wish list has some yank iron on it.

I was offered one of these yesterday - for US$3,000. Still considering it. I have always loved these.

A Borgward!!  I only heard of these at the 06 German Autofest in Canberra.  Beautiful cars. Photo Do it, buy it. ;)

sclass, what's your chance of getting a Hudson in SA.  Would you have to import?  Interesting site and the thing I love about the American cars of the time is whilst they all have the period look, there's so many marques with so much individualism and so much metal.  Works of art IMO.

Oscar the general design of that car was available from about '48 to '54, with various facelifts along the way, and badged variously as Hudson Commander, super six and Hornet.  The '51 to '53 (the Hornet) is the most recogniseable and representative version.  The cars all have a large displacement side-valve straight six (very unusual for the period).  Compression ratios are around 6.8 to 1 to 7.5 to 1.  They were available as 4 door, 2 door and cabrio.  The latter are particualrly expensive, but fortunately it is the more common 4 door I fancy.  Availability in South Africa is almost zero.  If I did inport it would be a lot simpler than trying to get a 6.9 because the cars are more than 40 years old, and are therefore exempt from most a lot of the permits and beauracracy.

The Commodore was also available in a 254 ci eight cylinder. The twin H is a pretty rare beast.

Here's a nice one for you

Thanks Craig, that is nice.  There is considerable debate as to exactly what modifications to the standard engine constitute the highest spec 7-X version which is obviously desirable.  There are, as you would expect, a lot of standard onces masquerading as 7-X spec.

This here is a pretty basic spec 4 door, non-twin-H, non-7-X.

Here's an early coupe - some need more work than others  - rust is a serious problem with these cars.

Buy the Borgward Craig - it's an appealing style and a bit of history.
