My 420 has a high idle of a bout 1100 in idle but when I put it in gear it wants to die if I don't hit the gas,I need some advice as to where to look, the air idle valve works, I checked it.
Thanks

OVP fuse or OVP itself
Thanks for this will try to find one on the Canada side, I checked the fuse by the way and it is good.

It could also be a case of cold solder joints in the idle speed control module.

yes, that too. tap on it a couple of times while at idle and see if the idle changes

Ok, can you point me to that unit as I have no idea what and where to find it or what it  looks like??

remove passenger floor mat then look for a big black plastic cover mounted at the bottom of the firewall. remove black cover; the idle control relay will be up to the right (about the size of a cigarette pack). sorry i don't have pics and just quoting from memory

Thanks for the info, I should be able to find it.
Would it also cause the misfire also??

Check the EZL module on the inner wing too. Common failure point on these.

Ok, I have no idea what EZL is and where to find it, so if you would be so kind as to say what and where I would appreciate it.

It's the ignition system ecu. On cars here in the UK it's on the right hand inner wing behind the headlamp when stood looking from in front of the car.

Wouldn't there be other problems if that is what the cause is ??

When mine failed it started by randomly cutting out, then an intermittent missfire and then the idle went up ::)

It appears that this unit can cause a number of faults. I was lucky as I had already bought a spare on ebay a few months before it failed.

It might not be this of course but it's worth considering.
