Somehow I feel the need to line the stars up when parking, 10 points for anyone that can identify the beast without Googling, and I would be very surprised if there are any of them driving around in Australia.

Hint: front wheel drive

Ok - I don't know. A couple of years ago we looked at one that was similar (not the same though) and it was a motorhome. We had fantasies of going bush in it and then discovered holidays in Europe instead.
The one we looked at was a private import and had done about 750,000ks but was in good condition.
I give up... ;D

Could your beast be related to this one?

That Citroen, or "bicycle shed" as I heard the local garage call one when it was getting it's technical check, has a sliding side door, which you can leave open while driving, pretty cool.

Your front wheel drive has me worried!! Is it a VW Transporter with an M-B badge?

No way on the VW question.

The motor I put in it came out of a boat, btw, a 220 Diesel.

It's green, will take a photo of it next time I have the engine cover off.

It's goot be a DAF of some sort then? :o
Help guys? Where's the cavalry? ;D

 :D "Mutant mercedes".

I got no idea and I'm resisting the google urge, only just.  Is this the only FWD MB ever made?

BC mentioned a VW transporter with an MB badge.  Did you know MB sprinters were being re badged with VW emblems.  The harlots!!!  It's the Senator Button plan all over again.

Mercedes makes the A class for the Europe market. They look a little like vans and are FWD and come with a 1.4 liter engine.
Not a bad little car.

Were these the newer version of the M-B 319?

I used to own an A190 which went like the clappers and carried a load of luggage. I was very fond of it but it was too small when the family reached 8...
Buggered if I know what this thing is though....

Actually there is a modernish van called the MB100 which has the same front wheel drive system that mine has, which is handy for gettng parts.

My beast in question is a 306D, it is basically a "Hanomag", a brand that Mercedes took over way back when ( 1971 actually ), installed their own motors, and made them their own.

It would have looked like this once upon a time, before someone pop-rivetted it into a camper.

That amphibious thing was some crazy German fiberglass body that came in a variaty of shapes, called the "Orion". It fitted on the same "rolling chasis" that the 206/306 has. There are still a few around, the caravan version actually floated and I believe you connected an outboard motor to it, and, well, could go fishing in it or whatever.
