I just picked up a 380 SL, it has various rust spots around the body, not entirely bad but by no means rust free. The soft top is in decent, but not great shape, The car runs Rich... i am going to change the oil sometime this week and start driving it, it should be good for it. i paid $200 for it so i figure it would be cool to patch up and drive around while i working on the 450! it even came with the hard top! i have the air cleaner and some wood bits that came with it. here are some pics...

Far out!!!  200 bucks for an 107 SL??  That's gotta be a record.  It's black too  8) 8)

Bargain!...absolute bargain, Well done, nice car too. What age is it?

500eguy

76, The Driver's outside door handle is broken, The seats need to be oiled to move along on the tracks... and the oil really needs a changing... its black black...

116Benz

76? that would make it a 450SL, which is even better...nicer motor and no alloy bore abuse problem.

oops, here we go :D  discovery time. :D

I agree.  I thought 380 m116's came out in the early 80's some time, not '76.  What's the engine number begin with Johnny?  117.982  or 117.985 would make it a 450 76 model engine iron block.

That they did, they started in the U.S in about late 80/early 81 (the chassis number 001 is sitting in the U.S classic centre). went up to 85/86 when the 560SL replaced it. There was some gray market 500SL's but, you'd pick them straight away.

Well done dude.  From the interior style, you can tell this is definately an early car - I will believe the '76 date, so its either a 350 or a 450, or its had a 380 fitted at some point.

Sorry guys, I'm being a PITA  ::) but the steering wheel looks later style ie 80's, and the cluster has the economy gauge thingy, also 80's.   But as we know, anything could've been swapped out over the years.

FWIW, I bet that AMG speedo faceplate you got from Germany will fit just nicely on this SL.  ;)  So whatever it is 500eguy, I see a black AMGified 107 SL with a Michel style custom badge on the tail. ;D

interesting car - late style window switches, early style carpetting.  Exterior door handles indicate pre-1981 (116 style) as opposed to later cars having 126 stle handles.
