Well I'm afraid that the project has come to an end. There is now a straight and almost non-rusty 126 body available if anyone wants it. I need it gone within two weeks! :o 8)

I am in the process of completing the purchase of a vehicle, but I am keeping the details secret for a few weeks. As always, it needs an engine rebuild. 8)

That's a shame TJ, but I can understand it.  Approx what do you think the body is worth there in WA?

I know, as I really wanted to see that 126 on the road, but I actually don't have any need for it now. Besides, I should be putting the effort into organising the 6.9's body and paint work.

The 126 body won't be worth much unfortunately, but I'd rather see it go to good use than straight to the crusher. It has a lot of potential.

The 380SE will be off to a new home on the weekend. The bloke has a couple of 380SECs and a 380SE, I believe. He will be using it for parts, or so I have been told.

This is timely, as it will allow the W201 to slot in nicely. I'll be keeping an eye out for a 16V 2.3 M102 now, if the current 8V engine is a little too worse for wear. 8)

so much for the big secret eh ?  8)

ME thinks you'll be having a hard time finding the cosworth m102 2.3 16v engine in australia cheaply, if there are any at all ;)

My old mechanic Ernest rebuilt a 2.3 motor for his 190E, an amazing car which he did to the AMG specs, cost him $14,000 in parts though and he did all the work.

He sold it for around $17K when he retired last year, i seriously wanted it but no dollars at the time  :(

Yeah, the chances of finding a 16 valve engine are slim. I'll be able to get the 8 valve 2.3 readily though.

Anyhow, we'll see how the 2L is first.

Yes, the secret is out now!

I look forward to seeing this car after going through TJ's garage.

I suspect your going to be very happy with this vehicle as a daily driver.

It's always a sensible judgement call to cut your losses - but hard all the same.

There is a major lesson in all of this with the advent of a lot of old aluminium blocks.

Makes a good arguement for old cars having cast-iron blocks (like a 116 of course).

Tj teLls me these 4 cylinder engines might have cast iron blocks. I think s-class knows for sure ;)

MT, I don't know the M102, but I presume its cast iron since the M111 1.8 litre I have is a 16 valve development of the M102, and the M111 is cast iron.

Yes, they are cast iron... The M102 is also in the W123 four cylinder cars.

The argument against the alloy blocks is justified in my opinion... they are just not able to be rebuilt easily, nor are they as durable as cast iron.

Still, it all depends on maintenance too.
