Nathan, check out these photos.  The owner is a well heeled Irishman who is currently driving from the west coast of the US over the the east coast in a W100-600 he just bought there, en route to shipping it home.  Clearly a G wagen enthusiast too.

dang Ryan,
a 55 towing his mog - this guy is a champ...he clearly has a small amount of disposable cash but still has some old school G action at the same time as his 55!!
when i went to germany last year, i got a great tour of the G wagen prodcution line in austria (Graz) but wasnt allowed to take snaps.  it was pretty awesome to see the work that goes into these things.  the other notable thing is that arnie was born in this town - however, they have closed his museum and taken down his name from the local stadium as it seems his californication has revoked his austrian status.

my G is currently not going anywhere...rear drum brakes need replacing which i picked up tonight, and started cacked itself (although we have a rebuilt one on the shelf so easy fix)...
another one of my pipe dreams i am slowly working on is transplanting an m117 500 or 560 into the G, but as you know, it all costs moneys and unless i come into some Brewsters millions like fortune - it will be a while before i get there!

i am also ticked off having just lost out on an original 1980s paint/interior colour chart for the G on ebay uk...some turkey was willing to go past 15 pd for a 3 page brochure (sad thing is i quit at 14 pd only because i was scared if my wife found out!)

thanks for the heads up
regards
nathan

I thought you might appreciate his taste.

Indeedy - I was impressed with all his garaging space, and what is essentially a car park in front of the garages.

How about a M119 500?  You really need to drive an early 90's R129 500SL or W140 500SE/L. You WILL be impressed.  The M117 is lame in comparison.  The earliest R129 500SL's still had KE-jet so they are the easiest engines to use for transplants - and they are 326 hp.

i love the w140...dad had a 500 - best merc we have ever had in the family (ok, the G and 6.9 have done me proud)...
that thing moved that slab of steel like a bullet...only problem ryan, in oz, they still cost a hell of a lot for an engine. being a poor man, i will battle at this point
to buy another engine before i consider having it rebuilt, custom fit, radiator, fit to tranny and transfer case, ensuring gearbox can manually access 1st gear (for offroadinG) and so on!
theres a hell of a lot of effort...i think my dad dropped about 10-15 k putting the m110 into the G which at the time had the diesel 300 5 cylinder with an STT turbo fitted...and that was 15 + years ago!!
but if you want to ship me your 500, i will gladly dismember it and accept the engine! ;)
best regards

'fraid not.  What do W140 S500's cost in Aus?  I'm trying to decide what cars to bring with me when I emigrate, and the W140 is on the 'maybe' list at the moment.

you can actually steal a 500 for over 20 grand which is pretty reasonable...there is one at the moment in perth with 88000 km for 24 grand - although havent personally seen it.  600s have been seen for similar money.  which cars to bring? that would be difficult...if the 450 is rhd, i would bring this, sell it for 20+ grand, then buy a 6.9 for 15 grand in rhd...

Nathan, my 450SL will be sold here ASAP.  The W140 would possibly sell for $10k absolute max here, hence my interest in bringing it.  The 280SE would sell for MAX $2k.  The 280SE and W140 would cost $1500 each to bring to Aus, which in both cases still makes a reasonable proposition.
