Hi guys,
was hoping for help with the 500GE project which is supposedly days away (i know i said this 6 months ago). i am looking for a merc switch to turn aircon on.
just a simple on/off switch that has the snowflake on it.  im not sure if any models had this, most of the 80s models had the temp control which turned on the ac.  models like 124s and 126s had the snowflake button as part of a row of buttons so i dont think you could simply remove the snowflake one for on off? does anyone have any suggestions for any models wtih such a switch, i imagine the 80s or early 90s might be my only hope before the fully electric techno ones came out!
any help appreciated

how about a 116 rear interior light switch with the picture removed and a snowflake printed in its place, connected to a relay of course since it cant handle much current.

curios... how would you go about printing on these switches (as i have a few worn ones, that could do with a revamp)?

I have a switch in my car that AMG69 put in to switch the sound system from radio to auxillary input,

I think it is used as an A-C switch in a US system. Left hand switch of the four.

My memory of the snowflake switch was that it was used on the "Button Box" of a 126.

thats not a bad suggestion Bill,
id prefer vertical, but maybe they had that on the later 126?
thanks

As suggested in our phone call I remember my 1994 124 E280 with manual A/C like the 116 had an "econ" button that turned off the A/C compressor but I cannot for the life of me remember whether it was vertical or horizontal - it also would have been more 126 looking in design.

I still have an old 126 button box somewhere and will see if the switch is separate in that model but my memory was that it was part of the whole component structure.

Hey Nathan.  Take a close look at the W116 A/C switch for the ACC.  Take the rocker part out, and turn it over.  You'll see that the little 'on/off' icons will pop out.  From the factory they'll only go in one way, but you can change that, too, by cutting another groove 45 degrees to the left or right of the original groove.  This is so you can turn the 'on' or 'off' icon whichever way you need to, i.e. if the switch is being mounted vertically.  I am think that the snowflake in the W126 switch might come apart the same way, but not sure.  I have a Euro W126 with this switch in it.  Weather permitting I'll go look at it tomorrow or the next day.  If they both come apart then you should be able to get what you want.  I am trying to attach a couple of pictures, but am having difficulty.  PM me if you would like me to e-mail them to you.  AARON
