Mercdes-Benz wave revisted.

We did this thread before a month or so back but I actually got a wave from a non 116 Mercedes driver today, it was some sort or recent station wagon 5 door thing with C200 on the back, sorry, best description I can do.

More than that, he pulled up on the inside of me at the lights and made what I now realise were appreciative signs and gestures, only trouble was I misunderstood his waving and thought he wanted to go across the front of me into the right turn lane, I was nodding and pointing and smiling - and must have looked liked a bloody idiot!

That's good to hear for once.

It seems to me that if I wave to anyone in a later model Merc they look at me like I'm incest or something.

Although thankfully the other week a guy in a white 123 gave me a nice wave.

I thought you dip the high beam?


The guy I got my 280 from was telling me that back in the day, in the land of South Africa, Benz owners would do the high beam thing at each other on the road.
As there was so few of them around.


His grandfather was a wealthy land owner and he visited his family in SA quite a bit.

Interesting recent experiences along these lines....

Recently got the "wave" from an old guy driving a turquoise 380SEL 126 on LPG.  Had that "I used to have a 116 before this" air about him.

2 days ago some bogans in a Toyota Hi-Ace were behind me then pulled up at the lights next to me.  Friendly "Is that really a 6.9? Thats f*cking awesome!  That car looks brilliant!... How fast does it go?"  The lights changed so I waved goodbye and showed them how fast it could go...

Two other young guys in the Tullamarine area (where I work, not where I live) drive 126s, a 380SE and a 380SEL... both have driven past slowly admiring the 6.9 from all viewing angles before flooring their lil M116 engine and accelerating, well, like a 380 does, up the road.  I though to join them and get my car on full song but the pinky-wiggle is something I'm keen to avoid.  These guys look like they know what they are looking at, I don't feel the need to prove it...
