Just acquired 1995 W202

Here she is - a fairly clean 1995 C220.  Brand new tires, perfect mb tex interior, original paint all around.  160,000 miles but it looks new underneath and not too bad under the hood.

$1300, but she needs a transmission (rear seal failure followed by reverse going away for good).  I located a good used transmission locally for $300 and the shop is doing installation, including a new filter and a full system flush for $260.

Only noticeable issue besides the transmission is the SRS light on, but I'm told once the battery is fully charged that problem may take care of itself.

Wow that is cheap, compared to what I would have to pay here for something similar - I'd be in for more like $3500.

Great cars, that M111 series cast iron engine is almost bulletproof.  I've never seen tex in a W202.  In South Africa, we were only offered leather or cloth.

Indeed, that's a nice find by the look of things.

I notice that there are quite a few W202s still on the road here, so they must be reasonable to maintain.

We would be looking at 4-$5000 for a good one here.

From where I sit, they look only slightly more complicated that the W201. Certainly a good car for the DIY'er by the look of things.

What a great car.  I had a W202 for 12 years (C200 5 spd manual).  Went well, very reliable and great to drive.  Only needed general servicing except for an air mass meter when it had done around 210k Kms.

Nice find John,

Air mass meter replacement is common, so is the engine harness, which I believe was covered under  a recall, you might want to check with your local MB if that was done just to heave some piece of mind, they can confirm that by running the VIN through MB's system.

As for the SRS light, if it doesn't go away with a new battery, have the car scanned and all error codes reset.

Tks,

Joe
