I need a therapist not a message board

I guess I have a condition that causes me to become involved in cars that are complete buckets (of rust, of parts, of excrement). While I view these cars as full of hope and interest or at least usable parts there are those on most message boards (present company excluded) that prefer to taunt, tease and insult. Anyway that's my vent.

Unfortunately we all suffer the same condition.

Commiserations and fellowship.

Thanks Bill. That's why I keep coming back to this site.

Aint that the truth.  Like minds Mike with similar goals, even if probably unobtainable, like an as new ex-factory w116.  It's fine to dream and great to share out loud and not be mocked.  Screw the hecklers.

I only ever discuss my interests and hobby's with like minded people with similar interests. If new people fail to display the required attributes, only the generic personality is offered up with a view to end the conversation as quickly as possible and move on. Unfortunately as a side effect I've also developed one way friendships with people who don't actually know me lasting years, but that's all part of the fun in meeting hundreds of people every single week.

I appreciate all the sentiments. One lesson I can't seem to remember is

My friends tend to fall into groups with who I can talk to about one of the following topics: cars / architecture, design & fashion / food & booze / science & technology / philosophy.  It's easier this way.  Occasionally people fall into two categories but only rarely.  Usually if I share sympathetic views with someone on say architecture, we'll have wildly divergent views on religion or politics, and it's best not to even bother.

The cars group in itself is quite diverse, there are a few Porsche fanatics, an Alfa one (downgraded from Ferrari rallies), a few MB sympathisers and strangely several who are really into old 20s series Land Cruisers.  It's the Land Cruiser ones who seem to share the most similar to old MB enthusiasts...

Flutes & MT,

Through observation, that sort of selective social interaction appears pretty widespread. I would say that I may function in pretty much the same way.

And yes, I speak about a very broad range of topics. Intense philosophical discussions are not uncommon with select people, likewise with cars, machines etc, etc.

The best therapy is working on the w116.

Now that I have the chance I'm currently enjoying my easter long weekend by getting my hands on the tools and putting my dash and interior back together.

Dash, complete! Only has been sitting in peices since hmmmmmm, july last year..

Good to see your enthusiasm returning MT.

I have surprised my self - I assumed the passion had evaporated a long time ago.

The car is now moved to a position where i can look at it from side on and work on it with ease and comfort, its now quite enjoyable to play with it.

Previously the area was dark, filthy, cramped & infested with red back spiders and mosquito's, making for a very uncomfortable and somewhat annoying experience. No wonder i didn't touch the car for 6 months at a time and considered sending it to the crusher.

Indeed that is good to hear. Let me know if you need any assistance this weekend. 8)

Dunno how I'm supposed to do that when u don't answer my calls ;)

I've done enough today as I've run out of trims, the rest are in storage and ill grab them tonight, to accomplish some more over the course of the weekend.

TJ 450

Whoops, that's probably because I forgot to put it on charge and it's flat. I'll have to do something about that.  8)
