Its diamond blue, 1987 done 256k km.

its not bad, good interior and straight. needs a bit of work. needs gas cells in the rear suspension and new brake discs, they must be warped because theyre pulsating. alloys needa repaint too.

also new tyres and alignment and balance will help.

im happy. ive finally graduated to a W126!

we'll see how she goes.

Congrats Paolo! ;D

I reckon you'll really like it. The only W126 I've been in was a 380SE(L?) and that went like the wind, so the 560SEL must absolutely fly! ;)

Congratulations a 560 in good condition has lots of torque and really flys.

Check your timing chain and tensioner as well as the other bits that you are going to do.

Its back from the mechanics, big service, new rear suspension gas cells, new brakes and timing chain.

apparently the timing chain was original done 256k km. it was about 3 seconds away from the end. my mechanic couldnt belive it was still running!

it also had a wooden gear knob in it that i just swapped for an original leather one.

if anyone wants the wooden one let me know. i have no use for it.

Was the chain making any noises?  Well you will have a fine 126 after all the money spent! :) Pictures Please

heres a pic i took with my phone this morning at the wreckers haha.

theres a 560SEL in there at the moment being wrecked. there wasnt anything in it i needed though.

my car had chrome arches and chromed alloys when i got it, ive taken off the arches and repainted the alloys.

it looks much better now. ive got another photo of when i got it still with the arches etc but it wont upload at the moment.

The guy selling it was very reasonable. he had a new car and just wanted to get rid of it.

i took it for a drive, picked over it, haggled, transferred the money and drove it home. he even had a RWC for it so it was really painless. no stuffing around with permits or tow trucks.

i got it for $4500.

even with the work it needs its good value and a worthwhile project.

in the next 6-12 months it needs a wheel align and balance, new clutch plates for reverse gear, engine mounts, and some odds and ends like fix the power rear seat and the height adjustment on the drivers seat and i want to get the leather doctor out to fix up the leather on the steering wheel thats a bit rough and the top of the drivers door trim thats a bit worn where you rest your elbow.  otherwise the interior is perfect.

im going to service it myself like i do the 450. simple oil and filter change. since the brakes are new i wont have to touch them for 50-60k km which is about what ill drive this in 5 years.

locking, cruise, aircon, sunroof, windows all work.

this hasnt diminished my enthusiasm for the 450SEL though. ill post some comparisons soon. im currently battling with the cruise on it. its been a really really great car, never giving me any problems what so ever, even a couple of months over xmas when i was using it as my daily doing 300-400km a week. ill keep it as long as i have a garage for it, next year it can go on club rego and have a pampered retirement.
