Gran Turismo 5 car list - colour me disappointed

The first unofficial list of cars published years ago never specified which would be released with the game, and which would be done if the developers felt like it as downloadable content (there were nearly 9,000 cars on the list, which seemed absurd).  This old list included a ton of Benzes, what had me excited was that I might be able to race:

MercedesBenz 300SEL 6.3 '68
MercedesBenz 600SEL Pullman 4Door '70
MercedesBenz 450SEL 6.9 '79
MercedesBenz 560SEL [W126] '91

I never really believed that any of these cars would be released, or if so certainly not on day one, but I'm still disappointed.  The list of cars included with the game has come out now, and in the Benz section has very few old cars, and none of the big old saloons:

S   Mercedes-Benz   190 E 2.5 - 16 Evolution II '91
S   Mercedes-Benz   190 E 2.5 - 16 Evolution II Touring Car '92
P/S   Mercedes-Benz   300 SL Coupe '54
S   Mercedes-Benz   A 160 Avantgarde '98
P   Mercedes-Benz   C 63 AMG '08
S   Mercedes-Benz   CL 600 '00
S   Mercedes-Benz   CLK 55 AMG '00
S   Mercedes-Benz   CLK-GTR Race Car '98
S   Mercedes-Benz   CLK Touring Car '00
S   Mercedes-Benz   E 55 AMG '02
S   Mercedes-Benz   Sauber Mercedes C9 Race Car '89
P/S   Mercedes-Benz   SL 55 AMG (R230) '02
S   Mercedes-Benz   SL 65 AMG (R230) '04
S   Mercedes-Benz   SL 500 (R129) '98
S   Mercedes-Benz   SL 500 (R230) '02
S   Mercedes-Benz   SL 600 (R129) '98
S   Mercedes-Benz   SL 600 (R230) '04

S   Mercedes-Benz   SLR McLaren '03
P   Mercedes-Benz   SLR McLaren (19inch Wheel Option) '09

Full list

Edit: Not to sound ungrateful, I should point out that the full list is an incredibly impressive list anyway of over 1,000 cars!

I would buy a PS3 for this game alone after my time with the PS2 and GT3.

But if only I had the time to play it :(

Personally I wouldn't care driving the old cars so much. Sitting in my lounge room in front of the TV just isn't the same as the real thing. Having said that, for those who have never played this game, the driving dynamics and feel for each different car is amazing.

At least there's the 190E 2.5-16 Evos... sounds good.

Despite my disappointment about not being able to run over a Skyline with a 600, I'll still be buying this for sure (and it will probably sit unused until I find time to play it!)

im pretty sure i have the previous version of GT for the ps3 lying around and i spent a grand total of 10 minutes playing it before getting bored. Have never touched it since.

theres no replacement for getting in the car and taking it for a real drive.  8)

Very true, but did you play the game with a steering wheel?

The visuals provide the attraction for me - it's getting difficult to tell game footage from a TV broadcast.

Without the old Benzes being in, I'd get more from these games without the realistic physics and with the inclusion of more explosions.
