Cam,
modified? my goal is to ensure that it cant be distinguished! ha ha
WGB, i am starting to wonder how quick this thing will be. with a 4.88:1 diff ratio, i think it might be a little quicker than i imagined. a 126 500sel with a 3.3 ratio was about 7 flat wasnt it?
as for the GL, that darn thing with the 7 speed and 285kW is very very quick.

Hahah... yeah, but with the extractors.. and how sexy it is.. man it's modified class. ;)

It'd just be nice to see something that's not just had wheels, Brembo Decals (not actual brembo brakes) and tinted tail-lights entered in the modified section of a concourse.
There's the occasional oddity of an AMG vehicle.. but usually it's a Derrick with a 'fake AMG' that enters in it.

Anyway, back to topic.  7 speed and the 285kw, I have no doubt you'l enjoy it.. with that diff ratio it should almost do wheel stands!!!

I can confirm that this vehicle is now drivable as Nathan took me for a test drive (thrash) in it yesterday.

It's no slug and i do beleive i heard those 32"+ mud tires break traction on the rear. WTF!

Nathan is allegedly authoring a monster video entailing everything that was required from start to finish on this project, all we can do is wait for him to complete it  8)

WGB

Nathan has sent me the video unfortunately I cannot open it on my iPad in Singapore for some reason.

Congratulations Nathan and I guess it must be a great thrill after all that hard work.

My ML500 was no slouch and no doubt your Dad's GL500 can boogie so hopefully your new G500 can mix it with the best

PS What size is the fuel tank?

tis true,
the 500ge is now operational. still quite a few issues to resolve, but overall, i have probably the meanest sounding w460 in the country, capable of doing rear wheel burnouts (not tried 4wheel burnout yet).  only driven it a couple of hundred km's, but its been fun not to be accelerated out of position on merging traffic for once.
i am working on a large youtube vid of the project for other nutjobs around the world, but this will take a while as i need to get the finishing touches done. some pics of the before and after 280 vs 500 engine bay. you were right MT, autosol did wonders for the air intake!
the last pic is what youll see when 30 year old rear drums fail to stop this 3 tonne slab and it drives over you.. as you can see, it has the twin exhaust down each side.
more to come in time
best regards
nathan

Nathan, what sort of gear ratios and final drive do you have?  A normal 500SE W126 is rather lazy and stands zero chance of burnouts.

S,
Final diff ratio is 4.88 to 1. Remember there were different 500s. Early ones had as little as 165kw, but  my 88 high compression I believe was 200kw. When that 126 was working, it could certainly move!

Nice, I don't believe I've seen this beast running yet.

I have a pre- Autosol'ed air cleaner with the high voltage sticker intact BTW. ;)

finally, i got my self into gear and finished off a video showing the project tom roughly start to finish.

i recently put BFG all terrains back on it, getting rid of the BFG muds which were now so noisy i couldn't use the handsfree after 20,000km on them!

Hi Nathan,

very interesting video, you had a lot of work getting that 117 motor in but it looks like it was well worth it in the end. attention to detail makes all the difference.
Impressive chassis in the rough, would leave of lot of the big jap trucks behind for lack of clearance.  Looking good on the freeway with some hard earned mud to prove it.

thanks for sharing
