....speaking of G Wagen's has anyone here driven one?

I know Nathan has a big red one, what are they like to drive? Say compared to a W116?

I have never driven one, but they sure look the business, even if the only offroading you did was over curbs and gutters.

with so many new messages daily, i only reply to a few so this one stands out!

new Gs are roughly s-class equivelant prices from my understanding...they stopped RHD in the mid 90s, but i understand you can get the new 55 (maybe soon 63?) in RHD in the UK only.  new ones are nothing like the old lumps and do everything one could ask...now that james r wont pipe in about landrovers (dont go there chris, nice colour!!), offroad capability is paralleled by none (yeah yeah, try and get a humvee's fat ass down anytrack narrower than an iraqi desert)...

the old ones are quite nasty to drive around town (saying that, mine is lifted and has 32" muds)...mrs crayford will back me up.  they are slow as well, i havent driven much thats slower (maybe a 123 300d!!)...however, on the weekend i drove in a 460 (original chassis like mine cf 463, the new ones) which had the m117 500 engine in it...this went like a bat out of hell and guy claimed a 7 second 100kmh dash - it felt like it too.  incidentally, he was the guy selling the 230ge i think you were linking...

anyhow, i never decline the possibility of picture posting so here they are (in the family since 1985)

Nathan, that's great!

thanks for the pictures and info, you don't see these pop up for sale often, maybe there wasn't many sold here or their owners just don't want to part with them till they are well and truly stuffed.

Des,
~100 or so were brought in during the early (1983-) to mid 80s until benz pulled the pin as no one wanted to buy a truck like vehicle with radio and carpets as options!!  they are difficult to come by now which is why they hold their value quite well...i have an ongoing joke with long term friends that the G wagen is the most expensive vehicle amongst all my mates who brought new offroaders 5-10 yrs ago only to watch their resale disintegrate!
hopefully, the 6.9s do the same (chris did alright!)
