Here's an interesting read, that may or may not have been posted before

Putting american V8's (Big blocks) into 107's etc.
Link 1

Swapping out for a 560 engine etc..  (This one's a really good read!!)
Link 2

The second one details quite alot how to do the conversion across to a 560 SEL/SEC engine.  This would be the natural progression.(short of doing a 6.9 etc)

Thoughts?!?

Good read there Cam - but man how much work is involved!  Even to put the 5.6 in causes major headaches.

Best to leave other people to the engine conversions and just buy the result if that floats your boat

I.
450SEL 6.9 #5440 = V MB 690 , 450SE # 43094 = 02010 H , 190E/turbo # 31548 = AOH 68K

Blasphemy! ;)

But certainly interesting, especially the 560 one. Just tonnes of hard work involved.

I'm thinking about doing a 560 into a W123, there is an article on this in the latest Mercedes Enthusiast, would be a real sleeper, brown or some other equally horrible 70's colour car with 300D diesel badges on the back, hubcaps etc...

That does sound pretty awesome :)

yep 123's handle so well, and are so easy to drive, it would be interesting to pit a W123 5.6 against a W116 6.9

6.9 would have more torque but 600kg's more weight
I'm unsure if hydro would be a benefit to a race car,

5.6 less torque, lighter, hopefully still retain aworsome road holding and handleing
fit some koni adjustable shocks, stiffer springs, sway bars and whatever you call those bars that go accross the spring towers under the bonnet.

w123 with 5.6 117.....PLUS A blower would be the weapon of choice...  just gotta make sure it looks like grandpa's car.
That's when you'll get the jaw drop at the lights!   ;D :D

Perhaps not as wild and not really a conversion, but one day I wouldn't mind grabbing a cheap but decent manual 280S or something and put on a couple of turbos. I imagine that would be pretty fun without too much work (would still be quite expensive probably though). :)

This is the car I'm talking about, only thing I would change is remove the dicky sunroof deflector and fit colour coded hubcaps with steel wheels

Turbo manifolds do exist for the M110

and V8 turbo manifolds

I have no idea on cost or what else you need other than the manifolds and the turbo itself.
intercooler?

Quite a handy link that... ::)

I'm afraid I don't know a real lot about a turbo system, but I think an intercooler is needed. In any case all I'd need to do is a quick Google search and guides would pop up everywhere.  :)

EDIT: Haha, my dad would probably go nuts if knew I'd ever consider turbos. He doesn't like them. ;)

Older turbo cars were/are crap, I recall a friend having a Toyota 2 door thing of some sorts that it would take forever for the turbos to kick you.

Modern turbos like on the Bentley TurboR I had a so much better, smoother delivery.
there is no replacement for big V8's, 6.9 is such a good version too, you have so much useable power, right from the 0 mark up to the "guns drawn as they drag you off to prision" mark

If you want some cheap fun, get a spare motor, hook up some NOS to your 500k+ motor have some fun, if you blow it, fit the new motor, It's not that hard to find a 280 under the $1,000 mark

Andrew280SEL

Not a bad idea...

I wonder how much though, if any, engine work a good condition M110 would need for turbos? Not referring to the 500K motor obviously, that would probably break pretty quickly.... It has no problem red-lining though.

They are a pretty robust motor with a willingness to rev, so maybe a mild setup would work pretty well, perhaps, with little or no engine work.
