Diesel has just hit ZAR 12.50 per litre or so here, and petrol something around ZAR10.50.  Divide by 7 to Aus $.

I filled up my wife's ML 320 CDI last Saturday and with the Cole's 6 cents per litre discount it came to $152.

At least it does around 10 l/100km in town running which is a lot better than my ML 500 ( I fill up near the half way mark - it's called denial) and way under half the consumption of the 6.9.

I try not to measure the consumption on the 6.9 - I sleep better at night. ;D

Afternoon Gents - long time no post as they say!!  I have just got back from Uluru and was delighted  >:(  to hand over my credit card and be relieved of over $450 as I pumped a couple hundred litres into the discovery (87 main plus 115 sub tank).  Marvellous trip though; Yes, I know, I should have had a kitted out G wagen, or, preferably a GL320 with the lot.....maybe next time.  In the meantime the now Indian owned (formerly Ford owned, formerly BMW owned, formerly British owned) beast outshone the Jeeps in the convoy and was simply brilliant in all respects; Over 4500kms of trouble free, heavy duty 4wd'ing.  I will only ever own an air suspended 4WD too - sooo comfortable on off road and the ability to lift the car at the push of a button (WGB will agree!!) - brilliant!  Anyway, way off topic I know but heh I think I'm allowed (!) here are some snap shots of the trip! A must if you ever get the chance (Red Centre of Oz)

sigh....sitting back contemplating the next purchase..!

One of our 50 States recently admitted they are seeking to raise ownership costs to eliminate the ownership of private vehicles by lower and lower-middle class people.

They now charge $1200 and one year's probation as a penalty for speeding tickets there.

Declining resource X human greed = using any method necessary (to drive the average citizen from the road).

Enjoy these halcyon days people - these ARE the good old days.  Never again will so many people be able to enjoy automobile driving, ownership and the freedom and mobility they allow.

Many institutions and most governments detest private vehicles due to the unrestricted freedom of movement they allow.  Can't keep the gerbils (citizens) in the peach basket if they keep running away too fast to keep track of.

(if that label said "governments" and "corporations" I'd buy as much as I could afford and give it away).
