Hi all,
plodding along with ideas of things to do with the 500 m117 transplant into the G when the guy who is doing the job for me said he was getting his exhaust ceramic coated. i had never heard of this but it supposedly reduces the heat of exhaust by 40%...in a vehicle like the G this would be great as the footwell can get damn got at times, particularly i imagine when it has a bigger engine seated in it.
has anyone heard of this ceramic coating and its effectiveness?

I was doing a fair bit of reading on the subject a few months ago when I was investigating some custom headers for the 280.  Sure it can reduce under bonnet temps.  But the idea of it is to keep the heat within the exhaust gas.  Hotter exhaust gas leads to greater volume of the gas by way of expansion and faster exhaust speed thus better scavenging which equals more power.  Or so the story goes.  Same goes for exhaust wrap, but ceramic coating looks cooler 8) .  I'm not sure how far down the system they do it though.  I just read about them coating headers.

The System on my finnie has been coated by a company called High Performance Coatings (HPC)
The Inlet manifold ,alternator case and  head bolts were also done with their Hyper Coat silver.
It has been done now for 12 years and with a quick wipe over it comes up Clean.
The whole Exhaust system was done from the Extractors back to the tail pipe.
