Some standard alloys suit a car so well that aftermarket wheels ruin them.

70's Mercedes: Bundts.
Triumph Stags: Five spoke alloys
Jensen Interceptor.
Jaguar XJC: GKN Kent alloys.
Porsche 911: Fuchs.
Any BMW: Alpina alloys (3.0 CSL especially)
Escort RS2000: 4 spoke RS alloys.

Don't forget the Bugatti Type 41 (Royale)! I think Bundts are ugly but the alloys on the W140 are smart.

I agree bundt alloys or chrome and paint hubcaps are the only wheels that suit an old benz.

for a mod to the car to give it a tougher appearance theres always the elusive 15 inch bundts which make a 116 look tougher and stand out more without spoiling it. id love to get my hands on a set.

theres a choice of 3 types of wheel! what more can you ask for??

ah, no 4 types... theres also the even more elusive 15 inch steel wheels and hubcaps.

i wonder what a benz would look like with vented steel wheels finished in silver and bare with no hubcaps? like the pursuit rims on holden police cars???  anyone able to mock up a photoshop??

theres 5 possibilities now.
