Don't know if that's quite true Bateman....

Although I don't remember any thread on this particular topic. ;)

That's dope!!

Just to confirm, and i'm gonna have a 'stab in the dark'..
If you advance the timing - does that mean it'll spark earlier?  Eg. before the piston comes all the way back up?  ???
(yes, i don't know very much about engines)  :-[

In that case, my apologies for posting it a second time. I didn't see it either, but then again, I only ever use the "Show unread posts" link, and I'm not convinced it always shows them all.

Very interesting to see that the combustion is far from uniformly distributed.

Hi PatB
Welcome to the forum, haven't seen you round before.  Hey hang on a minute!  how did you rig your post count. :D :D ;D ;D

Must admit, I didn't see the first mention of the vid and whoever posted the diff video I've still gotta catch up with that one too.

That's a gr8 vid.  I suppose it'd be too much to ask for sound as well ::)  But I was keen to see a full cycle.  Just after the exhaust valve opens, the vid replays.  It's interesting seeing this vid in slow mo though.  The fuel/air mix passing the intake valve is much more violent then I imagined and the ignition in slow mo I thought was going to look like a uniform wavefront like a shockwave coming from the spark plug.

The camera shake's a bit weird though at that speed.
