Found one of these cars and I think I desperately want it. No pictures but I would think its pretty rare. Asking around $5,000.

Comments?

I didn't think 450SLs ever came with a stick? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it must be a conversion.

It could also be a 350SL manual that has been rebadged '450'.  Get the VIN and engine number to be sure of what you are buying.

Desperately?  :D

Isn't that how you should approach every automobile transaction?  ;D

The vin absolutely identified it as a manual. I can't seem to find the paper I scribbled it on but it seemed to me that it was a true 450, however my memory has been wrong too many times to be certain. It is a grey market and very low optioned, hand crank windows, plaid interior (the real reason I HAVE to have it  ;)) and no a/c.

Even if its a bucket (the ONLY kind of car I buy) the manual trans has to be worth most of what he is asking. No?

even if it is a 350SL (or 280SL) which is highly likley and to be assumed until a VIN proves otherwise, it'll still be a fun car regardless ;)

and if its cheap, who cares, enjoy it, then throw it away. The trans will be worth something to someone.

MT that is just the kind of encouragement that makes this board great!

indeed - however, dont purchase said car unless you have somewhere to keep it and someone isnt going to go mental when you bring it home  8)

Not mentioning any names of course ;)

MT, have you been a fly on the wall of my life recently?

So I just decided to change the oil in the 126 and took a peek in the trunk and found said piece of paper with the vin. My memory has failed yet again. Indeed it is a 043 - 350SL.

Anyway, it still seems to be a reasonable purchase sans any inspection. If I make it over to take a look, I will post an update.

I'd still buy it, I've driven a few stick shift MBs and they are much more lively than their automatic equivalents.  Don't be surprised to find the manual 350 is as accelerative as the auto 450.
